The cricket ground is almost next door to the School’s ground in Romilly Avenue. The 1st Team has done remarkably well, being promoted for each of the last two seasons and was expecting a tough season against top grade opposition. They were challenging for a further promotion in the summer of 2015 when it was discovered that there were some issues with player registration and they were fined so many points they finished bottom of the league. The current season, which starts on 1st May 2016, sees the 1st Team, under its new Captain, Sayyad Laiquat, charged up and ready to take their rightful place at the top of the League. In the 2015 season the 2nd Team did even better not only securing 2nd place in their League, only two points behind the eventual winners, but also being promoted for the third year running. Zohaib Aziz top scored with 602 runs and the Captain, Sayyad Laiquat, was the top wicket taker with 39 wickets. With the promotion of Sayyad to 1st Team Captain the 2nds will be led in 2016 by Nasir Azam. Enthusiasm is running high in the Club to the extent that a new T20 team has been created to take part in a Wednesday evening League throughout the summer. Cricket at the Old Boys Ground 2015 The School Council has been very busy this year in representing you and trying to ensure that many of the ideas put forward were achieved. This Academic year has seen the re-establishment of Year Councils, which has increased the number of councillors from two per year group to ten. This has led to greater change in and around the school as each form now has a direct means of putting forward their concerns and ideas to the student body. To facilitate the running of the year councils, the position of Secretary of the Year Council was created. Their role is to co-ordinate with the Chair of School Council and to record the minutes of each meeting so forms know what has been discussed and ensure their elected representatives are putting forward their suggestions. The School Council has also implemented half- termly theme days to diversify the food in the canteen and provide opportunities to explore different cuisines. The different themes will be rotated around once per annum, with the inaugural day being American. This year has also seen lockers installed along the wall of the D.T. block to provide a safe, sheltered place for bags whilst the Astro-Turf and table tennis are used. The lockers by the English corridor have also been replaced with new ones, helping to improve the aesthetics of the corridors. Flower beds have also been installed around the playground, with a variety of flowers planted to help improve the aesthetic appearance of the school’s outdoor areas. The School Council also asked for a Football League to be set up. This was run by the Senior Prefect Team and ran for several weeks. The league did have several issues and was stopped in the lead up to the Mock Exam weeks for sixth form. However this provided a learning experience and a Football Tournament, following the World Cup Final format, will be run over the course of a couple of weeks after exams. I would like to thank Mr Bird, Ms Vincent and Mr Morgan for their support and for supporting the ideas that the council decided upon. I would also like to thank Niyaj Shohid, The Vice Chair of School Council, Arran Bola, the Secretary of School Council, and all the School/Year Councillors who have given up their time to attend meetings and help improve the school.
