This year, we all started from scratch again with a desire and determination to do that little bit better. As house leader of Galahad house, I have been keen to promote enjoyment, participation (irresepective of placing), competitive spirit, and a sense of camaraderie with other Galahad forms and indeed forms from other houses. At the time of writing Galahad house currently sits first out of the five houses, albeit with a relatively narrow lead, and I am beginning to understand what Claudio Ranieri feels like at Leicester City! Can we hold on or will Nelson or Alfred reel us in? Regardless of that, we have achieved some very notable successes during the year as follows: Yr 10 Badminton doubles champions – Mohammed Aziz & Balkaar Bhopal, Yr 9 Quiz winners – Majid Khan & Subhaan Mahmood and 8G – Basketball winners – led by Amar Rupra who plays at a very high standard for City of Birmingham U13’s and U14’s, as well as playing for the school year 11 team! Yr 7 – Rajan Aulakh won not only the internal HGS German Spelling Bee competition, but then went on to win the REGIONAL spelling bee competition, and will now compete in the NATIONAL final at Cambridge University! Yr 7 – Ishmael Mohammed is an extremely talented young cricketer who plays for Warwickshire U12’s and we still await the House cricket which takes place towards the end of the year. A special mention must go to Josef Feiven of year 12 for winning the Young Musician of the Year competition playing his French horn, and for accumulating +330 on SIMS. Well done to everyone who has tried to make a positive difference – come on you G’s! : D Mr A.K.Campbell Birmingham U13’s and U14’s, as well as playing for Yr 7 – Rajan Aulakh won not only the internal HGS on to win the REGIONAL spelling bee competition, Yr 7 – Ishmael Mohammed is an extremely talented A special mention must go to Josef Feiven of year 12 for winning the Young Musician of the Year competition playing his French horn, GALAHAD Another difficult season for the Henry boys. Enrichment day October 13th saw the year 9 teams in Basketball finish in 5th position, the Handball team fared better with a 2nd place finish and the Table T ennis team finished 5th. Onto the Year 9 Debating team, they came a credible 2nd. Moving onto Year 11 football, with Shuja Mehmood pulling the strings: a 2nd place position was achieved at Goals soccer centre. After the euphoria of winning last year we haven’t been able to replicate the same level of success. Not to say there haven’t been some great moments this year, just not as many as last year. We still sit comfortably in second place at the moment with plenty of events still available and Sports Day to come in the final weeks of the year. Some of the highlights this year have included: Craig Oshiogwe & Israel Taylor-Carlton finishing joint first in the House Quiz for 7 Nelson bringing home some valuable points. House debating has been an area of strength for Nelson and both 8 Nelson and 9 Nelson have had convincing victories this year to back up successes in the same event last year. In house photography we had success in the form of Abisheik Kailey in 8 Nelson and our House Co-Captain Emadadul Ali winning their respective Key Stage competitions. What was also pleasing was the fact that we had so many entries from Nelson pupils from Year 7 through to the Sixth Form with particular regard to pupils in 8 Nelson and 10 Nelson who submitted the most entries. 11 Nelson managed to retain their House Quiz title from last year thanks to Caleb Brown and Marcus Grandison-Morris. Hopefully we can make it 3 in a row for the boys when they’re in the Sixth Form next year. 10 Nelson finished 2nd in their inter-form football competition down at Goals only missing out on 1st place by the narrowest of margins. The cliché is that the second album, or second year in our case, is always more difficult than the first however we can be proud of the defence of our title and it’s not over until it’s over! There’s still time and more importantly there are still thousands of points available in the summer term. Come on you Nelsons! Mr M.Mohsin with particular regard to pupils in 8 Nelson and 10 11 Nelson managed to retain their House Quiz title year in our case, is always more difficult than the first however we can be proud of the defence of our title and it’s not over until it’s over!
