HOUSE REPORTS ALFRED House Alfred has had a strong start to the year thus far and we have successfully established ourselves as not only a sporting house, but also an academic and charitable house. We currently hold second place in the overall house competition results! We started off our year with some amazing achievements, 9 Alfred came first place in Dodgeball and second place in 5-a-side football. Our year 8s also exercised their dominance over the other houses in the house football tournament by finishing first! After Christmas we had a house spelling competition in which all Alfred forms performed very well. Hasnain Jaffer (10A) and Jay Keenan (11A) did their fair share for Alfred by securing second place. Our spellers from year 7, 8 and 9 all achieved third place. We struggled to repeat our performance in the Winter Photography competition. Mr Gallagher however showed off his photography skills and gained second place amongst the staff only to be beaten by veteran photographer Mr Jones. As the year rolled on to February we maintained our sporting success with our year 7s gaining third place in table tennis, basketball and handball. Ethan Lal (8Alfred) demonstrated his fantastic table tennis abilities and won the individual table tennis competition. 11 Alfred once again displayed their footballing prowess be securing joint first place. These successes have gained us good standing in the overall house competition. We have the ability and position to win this year, so long as we can pull together for the up-coming Sports Day and last Enrichment Day. Keep at it Alfreds, your efforts will be rewarded with victory! Mr Bansal HENRY The first Enrichment Day started with a victory for the Year 9 table tennis team, followed by a good second place in the Year 9 House Dodgeball competition. Enrichment Day in February saw Ayaan Shaikh win the individual Table Tennis Competition with the Year 7 team winning the overall competition. Year 11 did well in the House football competition coming third and the Year 11 House debate team also gained a podium finish with third place. In the latest Enrichment Day in May the Year 8s won the House Basketball and came third in the House Handball. In the new year the annual House Spelling Competition was held. Oliver Green (Year7) won, Hasan Khan (Year 10) came joint second whilst Rohan Mahmood (Year 9) and Uwa Osagie (Year 8) both came a credible third. In the annual House Quiz, an activity superbly presented by Mr ‘Game Show’ Conway, the Year 7s came first, Year 8 achieved third and Year 11 came second. Year 9 and 10 need to brush up on their general knowledge! Well done to those who have participated so far. We have another Enrichment Day to come (prior to going to press) and Sports Day as the usual Grand Finale. Mr S Campbell NELSON It is a time of transition for House Nelson, we haven’t quite decided whether we’re a sporting house or a more academic house based on our current cohort. As a result we languish near the bottom end of the overall House competition at the moment. There have however been some notable successes; 7 Nelson winning their respective Year 7 Basketball, Handball and Table Tennis competitions back in February. Sadly other year groups weren’t able to repeat the success of 7 Nelson’s achievements and our next best sporting result was 11 Nelson coming a heroic second place in the Year 11 House Football. Notable successes in the alternative competitions include; dominance by House Nelson in the Spelling Bee with wins for Donnell Chapajong (7N), Sukhraj Singh (8N), Maheen Uddin (11N). Alongside our traditional success in the House Quizzes with victories for 8 Nelson, 9 Nelson and 11 Nelson. The Callaghan brothers (Jamie and Robert) winning House Winter Photography competitions of year 7 and 9 respectively along with Mr Jones taking the top spot in the staff competition, again. Even with the successes mentioned above we struggle to close the SIMS gap, maybe it’s time again to redress the balance between SIMS and events? Nevertheless we soldier on into the summer term and Sports Day in the hope we can repeat the magic of 2017 and take the overall Sports Day prize home. With our new House and Vice House Captains Jude Folorunso and Harjunpreet Bhopal leading the way there’ll be no stopping us. Come on you Nelsons! Mr Mohsin 26
