PROJECT RELIEF Project Relief is a non-profit charity organisation with the sole purpose of helping and raising awareness about homelessness. Our aims: • to make at least a hundred care packages for the homeless. • to raise awareness about homelessness and the circumstances that lead to homelessness. Throughout the year we’ve organised a variety of fundraising events to fund our care packages. Our first fundraiser was a Christmas themed bake sale which raised over £600. Since then we’ve modified our approach to raise more money through penalty shootouts, penny collections, non- uniform days and “Guess the amount of sweets in the jar”. Our efforts have raised enough to fund our care packages, which we’ve chosen to distribute in Digbeth. We donated the remaining money to our partner charity: “Let’s Feed Brum”. Despite having simple aims we wanted to focus on the way we projected our message by creating a strong interaction between our members and audience. We have delivered assemblies to Year 9 in our school and to Year 5 at Grove Primary school. We have also been involved in raising awareness during Enrichment Days and our students were able to gain a better understanding of how poor financial management can result in homelessness. We chose to carry on the legacy from the previous year but to extend the impact we make by changing the way we approached our tasks. We are proud of the progress we’ve made and hope to continue the project even after the year ends. CLIMATE FOR CHANGE 10 Alfred collect paper from all over the school to encourage everyone to recycle. We want to raise awareness about the need to recycle and help the environment as less rubbish will then go to landfills as it can be reused. The long term effect of this is to reduce greenhouse gases which contribute to changing our climate. At Handsworth Grammar we are trying to help by doing a little, but to make a bigger impact we would urge everyone to recycle as much as they can to help protect future generations.
