PARK RUN In September some twenty ‘athletes’ from the HGS Community of students, support staff, governors and teachers took part in the annual ‘Handsworth Park 10k Run’. The event was formerly known as the ‘Peter Hayes 10k Run’, named and run in memory of a former student of HGS who died of a pre-existing heart condition at the age of 25 in 2012. The run takes place to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation. The event is expected to take place on the equivalent sunday next year, so start training now! Congratulations to Elias Idjer, Arun Singh and Hassan Ahmed who were the first three HGS finishers over the line. Mr Jones WALKING TO SUCCESS! Congratulations to Year 7 who raised nearly £1,950 through the Annual Sponsored Walk. A wonderful achievement! Together with the Year 7 representatives on the School Council they decided to donate all money raised to The British Heart Foundation. This will help to support the many people, young and old, who suffer from heart disease and associated issues. Jack Gallagher in 7A raised the most money for this good cause closely followed by Emils Jakubonis (7A), Francis Reed (7G) Yaseen Usman (7H) Olivier Martin- Panther (7N) and Zakariyya Yaser (7W). The boys collectively raised £762 – an amazing achievement! Year 7 have proved they truly are a force for good. They are testament to the positive mindset and philosophy of Working Hard, Having Fun and Being Kind. Well done to all of Year 7. 51
