World Cup predictions
English football legend Gary Lineker
once famously observed that
‘Football is a simple game;
twenty-two men chase a ball
for 90 minutes and at the end,
the Germans always win.’
In recent years however other countries
have emerged to challenge Germany’s
crown, so that a host of nations are
equally placed to take home the
coveted Jules Ramay trophy this year.
Here teachers and student consider
the runners and riders, and make their
choice for ultimate victors.
My prediction to win this year’s World Cup is France. Their
attacking quality is undeniable, with players such as Cherki,
Olise, Dembélé, Doué, Ekitiké, and Mbappé providing an
exceptional blend of creativity, pace, and finishing ability. That
same level of talent is reflected in defence, where France can
rely on the likes of Koundé, Saliba, Upamecano, and Digne.
Beyond their impressive squad depth, it is also worth
remembering that France were runners-up at the previous
World Cup. Since then, they have strengthened their squad by
integrating a new generation of exciting young talent, making
France a strong contender this year.
Mr Khan
I have watched a lot of Spanish football on TV this season and
I am very confident that Spain who are an exciting young team
under the direction of coach Luis de la Fuente.
They have some wonderful young talents such as Barcelona’s
Yamine Lamal, Manchester City’s star midfielder Rodri, as
well as another breakout star from the Barcelona team, Pau
Cubarsi.
Interestingly, Spain have two of the finest goalkeepers in
Europe with Unai Simon of Athletic Club and Arsenal’s David
Raya competing for the number one position.
Spain have a real strength in depth and a young team which
could well take the tournament by storm. They are my tip for
the trophy !
