BRIDGE TRUST CRICKET CLUB REPORT 2017 The 1st X1, under Captain Sayyad Liquat, had another exceptional season. They won Warwickshire League Division 7 by 24 points and without losing a match. They will now be promoted to Division 6 for 2018. On a personal level Ali Ahmed will receive the award for Top Scorer in the League with a total of 1,338 runs, at an average of 74.33 and a highest score of 197 against Dunlop CC. Other outstanding contributions came from Zohaib Aziz who finished third highest in the League, with 1,132 runs, at an average of 56.60 and a highest score of 238; Zahid Shah, with 815 runs, at an average of 47.94 and bowler Tayyab Saleem who captured 38 wickets. It was however a real team performance with several bowlers getting over 20 wickets and, when given a chance to bat, the lower order supported the big hitters very well. The team’s highest score was 407 for 7, against Griff and Cotton, also achieving 370 for 7 against Aston Manor. A really important win occurred against top team Coleshill, when, after losing three early wickets, Zahid Shah and Zohaib Aziz put on a partnership of 260, towards a final score of 365 for 8, bowling them out for 253. The match that took them to the top of the league (from which they never fell) was against Mosley Ashfield. With the wicket under water in the morning, the team used towels to dry it out and the game, restricted to 20 overs each, fought back from 158 for 8, to win with a crushing score of 159 for 1. Sadly the defence of their 2016 T20 Trophy foundered in the semi finals, when they lost by two runs, under Duckworth/Lewis rules, after bad light halted their run chase. The 2nd X1, under Captain Irfan Azam, had a more variable season. After a good start, they rather lost their way, coming back strongly to win most of their games in the latter stages of the season, finishing in 8th position. They had two really good scores, 298 against Olton and 294 against Continental. Highest personal scores were Umar 83, Irfan 79, Tehseen 67 and Shabbir 60 and as far as the bowlers were concerned Haroon 4-38, Nasir 4-45, and Zayn 5-18.
