22 SPORT Amar Rupra’s Basketball goes from strength to strength Amar Rupra in 9 Galahad has played for the City of Birmingham Under 14 Premier team this season. They won the North Premier division winning 17 of their 18 games. From there they proceeded to the play offs where they reached the semi-finals in Manchester only to lose to the eventual winners – Worthing Thunder. This is a huge achievement and it is the first time that a Birmingham team has reached this stage in some 20 years! Amar played a full part in the success of the team and the games were streamed on a global scale via the Basketball England website. Amar has also represented the West Midlands Regional team at the Nationals in Sheffield and was chosen to represent the region in the National shooting competition where he came a very credible third overall. Please see the poster for details of a Basketball Camp arranged in partnership with NBA legend Hakeem Olajuwon. Ex HGS Student Makes First Team Debut Corey Blackett-Taylor recently made his first team debut for Aston Villa FC. We wish Corey all the very best and look forward to seeing more of him on the pitch. BIRMINGHAM TABLE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS The Under 16 A and B teams were both runners up in the Birmingham Table Tennis Championships which were held at Holte School on the 22nd November 2016. This shows how strong our teams are becoming as a result of their practice and support from our table tennis coach. They played against Holte, Broadway, Nishkam, Wheelers and Hamstead Hall schools. They lost the championship as a result of one team winning one more game than them! Both teams put in an excellent performance. Squads: Under 16 A Solomon Khan, Brijesh Karthigesu, Usman Razak and Salmane Nasri.
