47 TRUSSELL TRUST FOODBANK Handsworth Grammar School donated over 9,000 items of food to Reverend Roger Collins from the Trussell Trust Foodbank. This donation was made possible by the hard work of Ms Elaine Brown and her form and the wider generosity of the Handsworth Grammar School Community. Peter Hayes Charity 10k Run Well done to Mr Alishah, Mrs Donoghue, Mr Jones, Mrs Minhas and Mr Mohsin who, on Sunday 18 September, completed a 10k charity run in memory of Peter Hayes, a former pupil who sadly passed away as a result of a heart condition at the age of 25 in 2012. The run, organised to support the British Heart Foundation, is now an annual event and takes place in Handsworth Park. It is expected to take place on the equivalent Sunday next year so start training now! It would be great to see students, parents, more staff and friends of the school getting involved. http://handsworthpark10k.weebly.com CHARITY FOOD FOR THOUGHT Every day people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. Over 13 million people live below the poverty line in the UK and foodbanks feed some 1,084,604 people nationwide. Of those helped, approximately 400,000 are children. 9Alfred decided to try to do something to help by collecting for a local foodbank run by the Trussell Trust. They provide a minimum of three days emergency food and support to people experiencing crisis in the UK and specifically in Birmingham. As a school we collected 576kg which is equivalent to 1,373 meals! Well done to 9A for collecting and organising and thank you to all those who contributed. Together we made a difference.
