Visit of Lucy Marcus to Handsworth Grammar School

On Wednesday November 5th we were privileged to have a special guest speak to our Year 12 students as part of their Enrichment programme. Lucy Marcus CEO of Marcus Venture Consulting and an internationally renowned expert on business and business governance spoke to our students about her work, her career and her guiding principles.

A graduate of Wellesley college, Massachusetts (where both Hilary Clinton and former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright were students), and Cambridge University, Lucy hosts a Reuters  TV programme and writes a weekly column for Project Syndicate on business and leadership.

She spoke to the students about guiding principles and about retaining your integrity as you move through your career. She was particularly inspirational to the young women in the audience who were all enraptured by her message.

Lucy was delighted with her visit to HGS and said that she would be pleased to visit again in the future.

Remembrance Assembly 2014

Handsworth Grammar School held its annual Remembrance Assembly in Big School on Friday 7th November 2014. This was a particularly poignant event as we paid particular attention to the significance of the fact that 2014 marks the centenary of the start of the First World War. We were delighted to welcome back Old Boys Mr Dennis Moodie and Mr Jim McAvan who took part in our assembly. Mr Moodie led the act of Remembrance and Mr McAvan delivered a very thought provoking address. Our Prefects Connor McGrath, Gurdeep Mall and Rima Legah all read poems and reflections whilst Leopold Johnson laid a wreath at the stained glass window with Mr Chris Etheridge the President of The Bridge Trust Society.
