Welcome to King Edward VI Handsworth Grammar School for Boys

videoI extend a warm welcome to you and your family as you visit our website. Founded in 1862, King Edward VI Handsworth Grammar School is the oldest Grammar School in Birmingham and enjoys a fine tradition of excellence and achievement. We are a part of the Grammar Schools in Birmingham for our Admissions process accepting Boys from age 11 to 16 as well as Boys and Girls at Sixth Form level. We are rightly proud of our Grammar School ethos, culture and traditions where we are creative, innovative and forward thinking as well as being conscious of our historical roots.

King Edward VI Handsworth Grammar School aims to make a real and significant difference to the lives of each and every student that we educate. The extensive opportunities available are created by a School that has acknowledged excellence in a range of areas but which is able to balance the academic, pastoral and extracurricular needs of the community with that of the individuals that form its student body. The School provides this purposeful environment with the support of staff who are talented and motivated in order to nurture the best from each student.

In our Ofsted Report of 2017 we were graded as Outstanding in every category – overall effectiveness, effectiveness of leadership and management, quality of teaching, learning and assessment, personal development, behaviour and welfare, outcomes for pupils and 16 to 19 study programmes.. The HMI noted that our students enjoy coming to school, that they make excellent academic progress and reach high standards.Teachers have expert subject knowledge and high expectations of all students. This Outstanding grading was confirmed in our recent Ofsted Inspection in March 2022.

We recognise that choosing the right school is a difficult decision. I would encourage you to contact us and we would be delighted to welcome you to Handsworth Grammar School so that you can experience what we have to offer first hand.
