Citizenship Day – Careers and University
Our Year 12 and Year 13 students were treated to a variety of guest speakers on a day focussed on career choices and university applications on Tuesday 15th October.
The year 12 programme included presentations by Dr Liz Miles of Coventry university and Mr Errol Lawson a former pupil of HGS. Dr Miles talked to the students about her interesting journey from an initial degree in engineering, to working in Japan, before her work in academia at Coventry University.
Errol Lawson also talked to the students about his journey to where he is now, a Pastor, author and leading professional speaker. He also spoke to the students about “goal setting” and being ambitious in their career plans.
Year 13 students heard presentations from Daniel Stone, a Handsworth man who is a graduate of Oxford University, and David Maxwell from the University of Aberystwyth. Both gave very good advice on interview technique both for university interviews and employment interviews.
The feedback from students was excellent and we look forward to welcoming our guests back into HGS next year.
