150th Anniversary

January 2012 marks the start of the 150th anniversary of Handsworth Grammar School.  To celebrate this momentous occasion a number of events and fundraising activities will be held throughout the year, culminating in a Grand Gala Dinner in December 2012.

For many years the School has produced a magazine called The Bridge and the earliest edition available, dates back to 1913.  In the run up to the start of the anniversary year we will be publishing extracts from various editions.  The first extract can be found here.

These snippets are not intended to be an official record of the School’s history, but to allow visitors to our website an insight and maybe an opportunity to reminisce into the past activities of the school.

If you have copies of school reports, memorabilia or factual information that we could use to write an update to the official School history then please contact us directly.

Watch this site for the latest news and updates of how you can get involved in the events and the gala dinner.

Desert Island Books

This is a similar idea to Desert Islands Discs – a BBC Radio 4 programme that has been running since 1942! On Desert Island Discs guests are asked to choose the 8 records they would take if they were stranded in a desert island.

Recent celebrities on the show include Tammi Grey Thompson, Ewan McGregor, Gordon Ramsey, Gok Wan and Frank Cottrell Boyce. For World Book Day this week Handsworth Grammar School are inviting people to list their 8 favourite books with a chance of winning a prize.
