Handsworth Association of Schools Primary Athletics Festival

Josef Feivan writes: “ 12 Students from the HGS Athletics team travelled to the Alexander Stadium which was the home of the American Olympic team last year for London 2012. Our role was to help with the Handsworth Association of Schools Primary Athletics Festival as Young Leaders. We arrived early on a hot sunny day and had half an hour to set up the Javelin and Long Jump events. Over 10 Schools took part and the Students involved were from Years 4, 5 and 6. It was a good day out for our Athletics team and it was good to see how enthusiastic the younger Students were about Athletics.”

HGS Old Boy shows real determination in the face of adversity

When he retired HGS Old Boy Mr Paul M Smith decided to study for an Open University degree. Paul graduated this week with a BSc (Open) at a ceremony in Milton Keynes. This achievement is very significant as Paul suffered a major heart attack in 2011, and had to be shocked back to life, half-way through his penultimate module. Many congratulations Paul!
